(Universidad Técnica de Manabí, 2022) García Pico, Gema Margarita ; Moreira Ortega, Gema Francisca ; Sánchez Rivera, María Teresa
Higher education institutions are generators of large volumes of information resulting from research work, therefore, the usefulness of capturing it and preserving it for later viewing is increasing. The objective of this research is to characterize the institutional repositories in the universities of the province of Manabí. For this, a descriptive and exploratory study of the current state of Open Access academic repositories was carried out, using the database records of national and international directories and the information available on their own websites. The approach is mixed considering that the information is examined from quantitative and qualitative perspectives. Direct observation was used as the data collection method. For the parameters to be measured in the description, the RECOLETA Guide of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT, 2021) was used, adapting 5 of the 8 criteria defined as basic for institutional research repositories, such as: Visibility; Policies; Legal aspects; Logs and Statistics and Added Value Services and Features. According to these indicators, various problems were detected in the repositories of the universities of the province, which constitutes a limitation to appear in international aggregators or collectors such as: LA Reference, OpenDOAR and ROAR, which negatively impacts their visibility.

The results show that Spain is the country with the highest number of Ibero-American journals published, and that educational institutions are the most prevalent in terms of institutional origin. On the other hand, regarding the position in quartiles of the journals of Library and Information Science in Ibero-America during the year 2020, four journals have Q4 in that year, one Cuban, one Costa Rican and two Spanish, while only one Spanish journal obtains Q1. The information needs are the lack of knowledge and information about a phenomenon, object, event, action or fact that a person has, produced by external and internal factors that cause a state of dissatisfaction. In this context, this academic work aims to analyze the way in which users of the Alejandro Muñoz Dávila Library of the Technical University of Manabí have modified their procedures for access to information in the wake of the pandemic caused by the Covid-19. From a quantitative and qualitative methodological perspective, this study analyzes the diverse information needs that users of the Alejandro Muñoz Dávila Library of the Technical University of Manabí have had in the January- January semester January-June 2021, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, a literature review approach addresses the sources of information concerning the main trends in information needs, consulting various articles previously published in books, theses and indexed and specialized journals related to this research. This is complemented by a user survey and an interview with the director of the Alejandro Muñoz Dávila Library of the Technical University of Manabí. As a result, it is intended to identify the management strategies that have been used in this documentary centre to meet information needs during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Finally, it is concluded that libraries in times of pandemic, such as the one under study, play an extremely valuable role because they have the mission of providing the university community with quality information resources and services, with efficiency, timeliness and technological reliability.
