In addition to achieving moments of recreation. The objective of this research is to develop recreational activities to favor the promotion of reading in fourth-year basic students of the Francisco Pacheco Educational Unit in Portoviejo. The methodology that was applied was descriptive and retrospective with a quantitative-qualitative approach, through the application of methods and techniques, such as: historical-logical analysis, inductive-deductive, analytical-synthetic, documentary analysis, which helped to substantiate the investigation. Surveys were also applied to teachers; participatory observation was used. The sample was selected intentionally, the 40 students of the fourth basic year participated, of the previously mentioned institution. The diagnostic results showed that there are weaknesses related to the promotion of reading in the institution selected for this study, since the little knowledge that students have about the importance of reading frequently, the weak orientation about what to read, how much to read became evident. and how to read, both in the family and in the educational institution, the little time they dedicate to reading, and few activities that are carried out from the educational institution to favor such purpose. The recreational activities developed provided work methods and procedures, which are valuable to encourage the promotion of reading. In addition, methodological suggestions are offered to teachers for their application.
