Las tradiciones de las fiestas de San Pedro y San Pablo en Portoviejo – Manabí

The dynamics of the tradition of the feasts of San Pedro and San Pablo, is given around a religious celebration with manabita essence that is organized in homage to these apostles, mainly in the cantons Montecristi, Chone, Picoazá, Crucita, San Jacinto, San Clemente, Portoviejo, Jaramijó, Manta, Las Gilces, Los Arenales, Sucre, Pedernales, among other towns. These festivities are a remarkable component of the intangible heritage of the Chola culture of the Ecuadorian coast, mainly of the Manabitas. The idea of carrying out this study was born from the foregoing, with the aim of analyzing the traditions of these festivities in the canton of Portoviejo. The methodology focuses on the qualitative, descriptive paradigm supported by the logical historical method based on a documentary analysis. To base the literature on this subject, we used the interview technique on this important tradition, contributions that served as support for the development of this study, highlighting the importance that has been given to these parties for many decades ago, concluding that the festivities of the feasts of San Pedro and San Pablo are part of the Manabi culture of their socio-cultural development, for what has been declared as cultural heritage.
