A descriptive study is presented, whose objective is to propose a deontological code for the
Historical Archive of the Technical University of Manabí, Ecuador. The method of documentary
analysis was used in the revision of the theoretical assumptions about codes of ethics and
deontological in the informational and archival field. The interview technique was applied to
professionals of the Historical Archive of the Technical University of Manabí with the purpose of
knowing the code by which they govern their performance. Among the most significant results is
that the revised codes visualize principles for an ethical action and a pronouncement towards
access to information for an informed citizenry such as openness to democracy, participation,
personal and social progress. Likewise, at the Technical University of Manabí, archivists,
although they follow responsible behavior and certain ethical principles, do not have their own
code; so this proposal is a guide for ethical and professional action and, in turn, guide the
archivist in the responsible exercise of the profession in this institution.
