Emotional dependence on the partner is the extreme need that an individual experiences towards his partner of an affective nature, previous studies have related emotional dependence with substance abuse, because both present similarities in their signs and symptoms, such as low self-esteem, uncontrollable desires, among others. The objective of this study was to identify the presence of symptoms of emotional dependence to the partner in people with psychoactive substance abuse. For this, the non- experimental-descriptive methodology was used, from a mixed approach, through the deductive, bibliographic and statistical method. The population was taken as 27 patients in rehabilitation of the CETAD Maranatha belonging to the Portoviejo canton, of which 24 were part of the sample for the application of the instruments which were a survey and the IDE (Inventory of Emotional
Dependence). Likewise, a semi-structured interview was conducted with the Institution's Clinical Psychologist.
