Usability studies how to present educational and entertainment resources in a way that can be accessed by all users regardless of their knowledge of information and communication technologies and the technology that these users have. In the present investigation, we examined the theoretical and conceptual background of usability. It addresses the importance of the intranet as a space for communication in organizations, exposes its characteristics and presents the problems related to quality. Some of the main usability evaluation methods are described and the instrument for evaluating the intranet of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, sede Manabí; is designed where the levels of usability of the same are analyzed, applying the elaborated instrument. Good acceptance of the intranet was evident; users were satisfied with regard to graphic design, content offered and variety of services.
