Abstract
The objective of this research was to establish the effect of supplementation with tomato flour (Solanum lycopersicum) in the diet of broilers raised in tropical conditions and in conventional sheds. We used 300 Cobb 500 line chicks, one day old and an average weight of 48.8 ± 2.6 g. At 28 days of age, the birds were distributed in six treatments with 5 repetitions derived from the factors: tomato meal (HT) with three levels: 0%, 1% and 2%, distributed in (females and males). For this, a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used, with 3x2 factorial arrangement. At 42 days, the experimental phase randomly selected two individuals per repetition, in order to evaluate bone morphometry, using their mass, length, volume, density, Seedor index, Quetelet index and Robustness index; the lung structure, by assessing its relative weight, diameter and area of the parabronchi and cardiac through the relative weight and thickness of the left ventricle. Mean differences were calculated using Tukey's multiple comparison test. The data was processed using Minitab Version 18. Supplementation improved significantly (P<0.05) the indicators of bone mineralization, while density was not different between treatments (P>0.05). The relative weight of the lung was higher in treatments not supplemented with HT, while in the diameter of the parabronchus was greater in the treatments T3, T5, T6 compared to T1, T2, T4 (P<0.05). In the area of parabronchus, it was higher when supplementing with 2% HT than in treatments not supplemented or supplemented with HT at 1%. The relative weight of the heart was higher in uncomplicated chickens (P < 0.0001), while the thickness of the left ventricle reflected tendencies to be higher in doses of HT 1 % with respect to 0 % and 2 % of HT (P = 0.526). It is concluded that dietary supplementation with HT improves bone, cardiac and pulmonary morphometry, mainly in male broilers.
