    Platelets are cytoplasmic fragments derived from megakaryocytes. Their formation is carried out in the bone marrow and they participate in the formation of blood clots and in the repair of damaged blood vessels. Having a useful life of 7 to 10 days, its normal values being 150,000 to 400,000 mm3. The objective of this work was to identify the main causes of rejection or deferral of platelet donors in the apheresis area at the Dr. Julio Villacreses Colmont hospital, Solca Manabí nucleus Portoviejo, from January to December 2018. For this purpose, we included female and male patients who attended the Solca Transfusion Medicine Service throughout the year. The methodology was descriptive, of a cross-sectional and field retrospective cohort based on the collection of data in the Transfusion Medicine service where the instrument used was the data collection technique of the pre-donation questionnaire that is made to the donor, the Results of the same allowed to know the most common causes for which a patient is deferred or rejected, obtaining 5 main causes such as fine, very difficult or deep veins, followed by risk behaviors that are not admitted for a blood component to be considered Quality, low hematocrit and hemoglobin, surgeries
