ItemDiseño y adecuación del laboratorio de histología para la carrera de ingeniería en acuicultura y pesquerías (UTM), en Bahía de Caráquez(Universidad Técnica de Manabí, 2011) Cedeño Cedeño, Ángel Ramón ; García Bermúdez, Jesús Antonio ; López Cedeño, Wilson Javier ; Macías López, Paul Douglas ; Alcívar Alcívar, JuanThis project was located in the extension of the Technical University of Manabí, at Leonidas Plaza, in the city of Bahia de Caráquez. The project was to design and adapt the histological laboratory in order to have a conditioned area with the technical requirements to motivate and enhance the learning of the students at the Aquaculture and Fisheries Engineer career. The development of the project took one year. The first stage was the choosing, buying and stocking of good quality materials. The second stage was to expand the area by removing a wall and making the appropriate reconstruction. After that the worktables were built with a stainless steel sink and ceramic top. Also ceramics was laved on the floor, in order to make it in an easy to clean area. Following the recommendations of an electrical engineer, the laboratory was equipped with electrical installations as well as with equipments like an 18,000 BTU air conditioner and on exhaust fan because harmful gases are used in the histological methods. Finally all the equipment was located at the respective areas. an histological technique was applied, step by step, to a commercial fish “chumumo”, Anchoa nasus,(ker and steindachner, 1867), to determine its sexual maturity. The results showed a greater proportion of females than males and also higher stages of maturity for females. After the practical histological procedures took place in the improved laboratory at the university extension of Bahia, it demonstrated its relevance for academic and professional success as well as its contribution for the development of the science and technology at this region.
