dc.description.abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the artificial cup cells made of plastic or pure wax used in the Doolittle method for raising Africanized honey Apis queens. Several variables were tested such as the number of cup cells accepted and capped, the diameter and height of queens, the number of queens born, and the number of queens fertilized per treatment. Five larval progenitor mother hives were incubated using a single-cup cell support frame with a total of 40 trans-larval domes distributed in two groups; 20 wax and 20 plastic with concentrations of royal jelly and distilled water in 50/50 portions. The results were presented as tabulated data and were analyzed using experimental and descriptive statistics utilizing the Mintab software, in addition, the Poisson method of factorial plots, analysis of variance with a generalized linear model, Pearson's correlation matrix plot, and no parametric Kruskal-Wallis Test analysis with a significance level of 95%. It was found that both types of domes (plastic and wax), give similar results with few differences in terms of the weight of the queens born and the size of the royal cells. However, the use of plastic cup cells facilitated the handling of the queen cups, saved time, and reduced expenses due to its reuse potential. In addition, it was found that the height and diameter of royal cup cells in both groups had no significant relationship with the final weight of the queens at birth. However, the type of dome used influenced the acceptance by the worker bees; The use of plastic domes was associated with a higher number of births due to their higher acceptance. According to the results, it is recommended not to randomly distribute the dome types in a single strip, since it increases the error in the probability of acceptance.
