ESTADO NUTRICIONAL Y DESARROLLO PSICOMOTRIZ EN NIÑOS MENORES DE 5 AÑOS ATENDIDOS EN EL SUB-CENTRO DE SALUD “LODANA”, DE SANTA ANA, MAYO A OCTUBRE 2012

Abstract

Malnutrition is considered as the clinical expression of a fault of growth maintained that translates in the alteration in size and body composition; when growth slows down, the brain development lags behind, so that children with growth retardation are more likely to have learning problems. With the objective of determining the influence of nutritional status in the psychomotor development was carried out a prospective study and descriptive in children younger than 5 years who were cared for in the Sub-Centro Health "Lodana", Santa Ana, May to October 2012; the population was represented by 300 children who were assessed the nutritional status, the measurement of P/E, T/E, BMI/E as well as psychomotor development using the Denver test. Among the major results, it was observed that 10.3 % of children suffer from acute malnutrition, 2% of chronic malnutrition, 5.3 % overweight and 1.7 % obesity. In the psychomotor development, the area was fine motor the more affected with a 6% versus 4% of the gross motor area and personal/social. Through the correlation found that there is a significant relationship between nutritional status and psychomotor development of children's health Sub-Centro "Lodana". With this background it is recommended that the health personnel promote medical checks and pediatric nutrition education to parents sensitisation on exclusive breastfeeding before the six months, complementary feeding after six months and on the nutritional habits of their children after the yea.
