dc.description.abstract The hypoglycemic and anti-adipogenic effect of mango flour (Mangifera indica L.) was evaluated in DC-1 mice induced to obesity. During 8 weeks (experimental phase 1) 35 CD-1 mice received a hypergrase (HG) ration and 15 mice of the same line received a control diet (C). HG intake determined higher body weight and abdominal fat deposition (Student's t test). In a second experimental phase of 4 weeks, 30 mice induced to obesity randomly received the hypercaloric (HG), 2% hypercaloric mango flour rations ( HG + 2% HM) and hypercaloric 4% HM (HG + 4% HM), group C received the ration provided in the first phase (One-way analysis of variance). Greater food intake was observed in group C, and yet lower body weight and abdominal fat deposition (GA) than the remaining treatments. The intake of MB reduced the deposition of GA by 9.41% and 20.93%, however, no statistical significance was reached. Additionally, a lower concentration of LDLc in HG + 2% HM is reported in relation to C, and a tendency to increase the atherogenic index in this treatment. On the other hand, no differences were observed in the concentration of glucose, total cholesterol, HDLc and triacylglycerol, although the concentration of this indicator was reduced by 21.9% and 38.9% between the HG + 4% HM and HG treatments. The hyper-fat ration did not generate fatty changes in the liver. In treatment C, parenchymal degeneration was observed with reaction of the kuffer cells, and very marked vascular dilatation with discrete congestion in HG; when supplemented with HM, no histopathological alterations are observed. In conclusion, the reduction of abdominal fat and triacylglycerol levels, and additionally the hepatoprotective effect exerted by the MB, determine its apparent relevance on the biological response, independently of the statistical significance reported. Key words: mango flour, liver, abdominal fat, lipid profile, glycemia, obesity. es_ES
