dc.description.abstract The main objective of this study was to evaluate the inclusion of soybean meal as a replacement for commercial feed in the diet of black tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in juvenile stage I. To carry out the research, 300 tilapias were used; with treatments: 0% (T1), 25% (T2), 50% (T3), 75% (T4) and 100% (T5) of soybean meal inclusion replacing commercial feed; with 3 replicates and a population density of 20 tilapias per treatment. The duration of the experiment was 3 months, and the variables analyzed were: weight, size, physicochemical parameters of the water, and cost/benefit. Weight and length were monitored every 5 days and physicochemical parameters were measured every day at 7 am. At the end of the trial, the parameters were compared with each other by ADEVA with the randomized design, using Tukey's mean comparison test. The Statistical Analysis System (SAS® 9.4) was used. The results obtained for weight and height variables showed significant differences: weight (P= 0.029), height (P=0.04). Treatment 1 (0%) obtained weights (65g) and lengths (15cm), treatment 5 showed weights (51g) and lengths (14.7cm), with treatment 1 being the most efficient. As for the physicochemical parameters of the water (pH, temperature and %DO) showed no significant difference. But in the case of mg/LDO and electrical conductivity, they did show significant differences: mg/LDO (P=0.026), electrical conductivity (P=0.02), while salinity and reduction oxide potential showed highly significant differences (P value <.0001). According to the cost/benefit results the best return on dollar invested was T1 (0.31). It was determined that the replacement of commercial feed by soybean meal in the diet of (Oreochromis niloticus) in juvenile stage I is not feasible.
