The purpose of this study was to investigate in the coastal zone of Manabí, the phenomenon of capillary absorption of concrete exposed to marine environments using local aggregates. The area selected was Crucita – San Jacinto - San Clemente, including La Boca, the parameters mentioned in the article published by J.J. Howland (Howland, 2013)2 entitled "Study about the capillary absorption and the sorptivity of concretes with cuban limestone aggregates", in which limits of 10% porosity and 5x10 -5 m / s 1/2 absorption rate was established. Guatemalan guidelines COGUANOR NTG41017 h23 standard is followed, which is essentially equivalent to the ASTM C1585 standard, making a small modification to the process using seawater made from the sectors of interest thereby obtainining acceptable results with low relation concrete w/c and as long as good construction practices pay off. It was also produced by obtaining the Langelier index of water characterization study areas thus giving another influential process parameter wicking concrete.
