La gestión del centro médico “Cristo Rey” y su influencia en el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida de la población de la ciudad de Portoviejo, Período 2002-2007

Abstract

In today's world, NGOs play a very important role in improving the living conditions of the most unprotected people. This type of company has a better reputation in relation to other private and public companies. In this sense, the Cristo Rey Medical Center has gained prestige and trust due to the work carried out for many years by the Jesuit priests at the "Cristo Rey" Educational Center. On the other hand, the different concepts regarding the management of this type of organization have changed significantly over time. One of the new foundations is that NGOs should tend to be companies that self-manage their resources and that can reach total self-sustainability; and where these organizations should manage and administer marketing plans, tending to be financed with cooperation mainly from the private company, from an investment vision for both entities; and where all those involved in the process feel involved from the beginning in the project. Public companies also have a desire to provide non-profit service; for this reason, the coordination of joint activities should not be left aside. Likewise, in the world, there is a very deep trend of non-governmental organizations that provide medical services, to direct their management towards the specialization of activities, and the execution of preventive medicine. None of the aspects noted in the previous paragraphs have been observed and executed by the Cristo Rey Medical Center; for this reason, there have been many problems, identified in the annual reports of this organization. However, there is still time to change, and to take advantage of the advantages that this medical center has, with respect to other public and private institutions, which constitute the competence of the medical center. Therefore, it is necessary to reconvert the administrative and operational management of the medical center; under the realization of certain diagnoses of the internal management, and of the needs of the objective community; for which concepts such as the specialization and professionalization of the services provided must be kept in mind; as well as the creation of departments, which are necessary, to exercise a better satisfaction of the needs.
