Repositorios institucionales en instituciones de educación superior del Ecuador

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the institutional repositories (IR) of higher education institutions in Ecuador. It is based on a mixed approach of an exploratory and descriptive nature. Obtaining the necessary information was carried out through direct observation of the data on the IRs that appear in the Network of National Institutional Repositories of Ecuador (RRAAE), and is additionally complemented with the data that appear on their own websites and in the collectors. International: LA Reference, OpenDOAR and ROAR. It is evident that the future of the IR in universities of Ecuador is promising, propitiated by the governmental initiatives of open data, and with the perspectives of the generalized Open Access movement worldwide. However, although its implementation is increasing, in terms of the appearance of these in international collectors, no great progress has been detected. There are repositories that do not appear in the world ranking. In a considerable number of repositories, the necessary information regarding its objective, mission, policy and advice is omitted. Total RI uses DSpace as management software, and the elements are protected by copyright, which involves the right to be properly acknowledged and cited. With these results, it is concluded that Ecuadorian universities are still at the intermediate level with respect to the functionality of their IR.
