dc.description The Gold Standard in the surgical resolution of biliary diseases is laparoscopic surgery. However, this practice is not free of complications, which can be so serious that they compromise the patient's life. The present study is descriptive, retrospective and longitudinal, 224 clinical records were reviewed in the database of the Department of Statistics of the Regional Hospital of Portoviejo of patients operated by laparoscopic surgery for biliary pathologies for two years. Objective: To determine the complications of laparoscopic surgery in patients treated for biliary diseases in the Surgery Service, Dr. Verdi Cevallos Balda Hospital. Results: The study population presented an index of complications during the laparoscopic intervention due to biliary disease of 6%. 46% of these were caused by problems during the surgical technique, specifically, accidental perforation of the gallbladder; Followed by bleeding with 31% and the remaining 23% corresponded to the clipping and section of the bile duct. Cholelithiasis was the most common biliary pathology (85%). Regarding the characteristics of the population, the mean age was 36.7 years, the female sex represented 86% of the population and the Arterial Hypertension (40%) along with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (25%) led the list Of personal pathological antecedents. The conversion rate was 11%. Conclusions: The results showed similar complication rates as reported in the world literature. Problems during the surgical technique led the list of complications, all of which originated from accidental perforation of the gallbladder, followed by bleeding and clipping and sectioning of the bile duct. More than half of the study users remained 1 to 3 days in recovery before discharge. es_ES
