Abstract
Vulvovaginal candidiasis is an opportunistic infection caused by yeasts of the Candida genus. The main predisposing factors are pregnancy, antibiotic treatment, and diabetes mellitus. In Ecuador, Candidiasis is the second most common cause of vaginal infection, representing 46.1% of the statistics. The main objective of this research is to analyze the frequency of vaginal yeast infections in pregnant women at the Andrés de Vera Health Center in the Canton of Portoviejo. To carry out this study, an observational, descriptive and retrospective methodology was applied, based on the development of the study of the medical records of pregnant patients who have come to care. Vaginal candidiasis due to Candida albicans is a fairly common pathology among pregnant women, representing 75% of conditions at this stage and it is easy to treat without major complications. Finally, it was obtained that the most common Candida spp that affected the women in the study was Candida albicans in 95.05%, the most recurrent gestation period was the third trimester

La candidiasis vulvovaginal es una infección oportunista provocada por levaduras del género Candida. Los principales factores predisponentes son la gestación, los tratamientos con antibióticos y la diabetes mellitus. En el Ecuador, la Candidiasis es la segunda causa más común de infección vaginal representando el 46.1% de las estadísticas. La presente investigación tiene como principal objetivo analizar la frecuencia de candidiasis vaginal en mujeres embarazadas del Centro de Salud Andrés de Vera del Cantón Portoviejo. Para llevar a cabo dicho estudio, se aplicó una metodología de tipo observacional, descriptiva y retrospectiva, basándose en el desarrollo del estudio de las historias clínicas de las pacientes embarazadas que hayan acudido a atención. La candidiasis vaginal por Candida albicans es una patología bastante común entre las embarazadas, representando el 75% de afecciones en esta etapa y es de fácil tratamiento sin presentar mayores complicaciones. Finalmente, se obtuvo que la Candida spp más común que afectó a las mujeres en estudio fue la Candida albicans en un 95.05%, el periodo de gestación más recurrente fue el tercer trimestre
