Abstract
Associated or mixed silages have advantages, because the mixture of forage resources improves the balance of nutrients present in the silage. The present study was carried out on the premises of the Technical University of Manabí, Faculty of Zootechnical Sciences - Chone Extension in the area of pastures and forages and Bromatology Laboratory, which is located at coordinates 0 ° 41'14.87 " S and 80°7'27.10"W, via Boyacá, Chone Canton, Manabí Province. With the objective of evaluating the bromatological and microbiological characteristics of Maralfalfa grass silage (Pennisetum sp) associated with shrubby plants as a forage alternative. To this end, 20 micro silos were created as a result of the combination of the four with five replicates for each treatment, which underwent bromatological analysis using AOAC 2001 and Vant Soest 1971 and microbiological analysis according to INEN standards. Based on the results observed in the bromatological composition, the treatment with the best nutritional content was number one, which was composed of 50% Maralfalfa grass and 50% Buttercup, because it obtained a greater amount of protein 15.09% and low in acid detergent fiber 14.00%. Microbiologically, the best treatment was the one because it presented absence of Enterobacteria, absence of Fungi-yeasts and low value of Staphylococcus, in what refers to the variation of the pH, all the treatments had a pH lower than 4.5. for which the hypothesis raised in the investigation is accepted. In general, there are several factors that determine the quality and nutritional value of a good silage from the selection of the variety, degree of maturity, humidity, handling during chopping, compacting and fermentation. Keywords: silage, food science, microbiology, fiber and fermentation
