Biblioteca médica en hospitales de Portoviejo, incidencia en la comunidad hospitalaria

Abstract

The medical library provides an important contribution to the hospital community, meeting the needs of specialized health information of researchers, students, rotating interns and hospital users, fulfilling academic role in the various actions it develops; To contextualize its relevance, the present work is carried out with the purpose of supporting the need and relevance of implementing medical libraries in hospitals in the city of Portoviejo; The applied methodology has a qualitative quantitative approach of a descriptive, documentary and demographic type, allowed quantifying the information needs of the hospital community and knowing the criteria of those involved, the documentary analysis allowed characterizing the state of the art, the demographic method contributed in the segmentation of the patients by age, sex, geographic region, the population focused on medical staff, patients and their families. It is concluded that within the portfolio of services provided by health houses, the implementation of a medical library is necessary to meet the demand for information from the staff working there, favor reading therapy activities and promoting healthy practices that improve quality of life of the population and provide medical personnel with specialized and up-to-date literature on health issues, to strengthen their knowledge, promote information literacy for the good management and use of information and the generation of new knowledge.
