UNDER SEMI-CONTROLLED CONDITIONS, THE PHOTOSYNTHETIC RESPONSE OF THEOBROMA CACAO CLONES (CCN-51, EET-103, EET-575 AND EET-576) WAS EVALUATED AT DIFFERENT WATER AVAILABILITY CONTENTS IN THE SOIL, THE ASSAY WAS LOCATED IN THE TEODOMIRA EXPERIMENTAL STATION, FACULTY OF AGRONOMY, BELONGING TO THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF MANABÍ. THE RESPONSE VARIABLES WERE PHOTOSYNTHESIS (ΜMOL CO2 M-2/SEG-1), PHOTOSYNTHESIS CURVES VS. PHOTONIC FLOW DENSITY, GROWTH RATE, STEM DIAMETER AND PLANT HEIGHT. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE CLONES UNDER STUDY REDUCE THEIR RATE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS IN A PROGRESSIVE WAY, OFTEN THAT THE WATER DEFICIT IS INCREASING, WITH THE EET-103 CLONE REPORTING THE LOWEST PHOTOSYNTHETIC RATE.
